Shot back-to-back with The Matrix Reloaded, the third and final installment of Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski's sci-fi action saga picks up where the second film left off. The first thing that comes to mind after seeing The Matrix Revolutions is that the Wachowski brothers shouldn't have yielded to the inevitable "obligation" of doing a trilogy. Had they condensed the second and third volumes of their saga into a single concise and complete episode, they would've probably achieved a result more or less.

In both these cases, Neo returns to The Matrix "reborn"; in the first case, he enters the Matrix for the first time. If I cared more about Neo, Morpheus, Niobe and the others, there'd be more fire in my heart.
But my regard is more for the technical triumph of the movie, less for the emotions it evokes. Neo is no more intended to have deep psychological realism. Matrix Revolutions, the unpopular conclusion to the cinematic trilogy, is unfortunately falling in the wrong side. Even if there are some nice elements, such as an original art direction (directly inspired from steampunk) and set design/costumes that are a mixture between post-apocalypse (Mad Max) and a funny leather fetishism, the movie. Many films have copied ideas from The Matrix franchise (Shrek for instance).
In this case, The Matrix: Revolutions seems to have borrowed from Star Wars IV — A New Hope (the first Star Wars movie made). This movie franchise has enjoyed huge success. The other two movies in the series are: The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded. The movie that singlehandedly besmirched the integrity of an entire franchise.
